Baphuon Temple
Somebody says that Baphuon Temple is the
largest puzzle game in the world. Before the civil war, a group of
archaeologists made a lot of work to reorganize the temple piece by piece. But
all the work was destroyed by the Khmer Rouge. With years’ research later, one
of the toughest reconstruction project is still under way. The reconstruction
work in 16th century of the 70-meter-high lying Buddha, made the
work more complicated.
The Baphuon Temple is located about 200
meters northwest of the Bayon Temple. Its construction could be traced back to
the Suryavarman I time, and it was completed by the Udayadityavarman II (1049 -
1065 AD). It was the center of the old Angkor Thom.
