As one of the few most magnificent historic sites in the world, Angkor Wat was built with wisdom and inspiration. The toweringly Angkor Wat is surrounded by a moat which makes most of the castles in the world feel deeply ashamed.
Some researchers believe that the short journey from the outside stone road to the inside holy shrines symbolizes a trip go back to the starting of the universe. Some other researchers pointed out that the Angkor Wat exactly is a copy of the universe - the central sacred pagoda represents the Mt. Meru of Hinduism; the smaller ones surrounds the mountain, outward of which are the continents (lower courtyard)and oceans (moat); the seven Nagas (God of snake in the myths) are the bridge connecting mortal world and the heaven.
Angkor Wat has the largest religion architectures of the world, built by the Suryavarman II to consecrate his patron saint Vishnu and to serve as himself’s tomb. The central temple was built on three exquisite support foundations, everyone of which is a square formed by the connected ambulatories. The central pagoda is 31 meters higher than the third support foundation, 55 meters higher than the ground, which balances the whole Angkor Wat.
The 800-meter-long bas-relief embraces the central temples, among which the most famous one is the Churning of the Ocean of Milk. The elegant bas-reliefs include the 88 asura (the demon) sculptures and 92 deva (the god) sculptures wearing helmets, they are digging through the ocean to extract elixir.
Please spend more time on this one and only place. It has the most beautiful religion architectures, as well as the most stunning sunrise of Cambodia.
