With one-third of the area of China’s Tiananmen Square, Ba Dinh Squareis a meeting place for the great important events of Vietnam.
The name of the square itself commemorates one of the early rebellions against foreign country’s colonial rule: the Ba Dinh Uprising of 1886-87. When Ho Chi Minh readVietnam's Declaration of Independence at the spot on September 2, 1945,Ba Dinh Squaremarked its political and historical importance in the country. Situated in the center of Hanoi, Ba Dinh Square is surrounded by a complex of several beautiful cultural and historic tourist sites: to west of the square located Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, which is surrounded by Ho Chi Minh's Residence and Ho Chi Minh Museum separately to the northwest and southwest; to southeast of the square is the Hoan Kiem Lake. Other important buildings including the Presidential Palace, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Planning and Investment also located around the square. In front ofBa Dinh Squareis a large grass yard that is divided into 168 squares. Every year million of tourists come here to visit the square and its beautiful surroundings.
