Tha Pae Gate is the only ruin of the Old City of Chiang Mai, which was built in 1296 with maroon bricks. This history honored gate was once an east gate of the old city. The road face towards the gate is named after it and it is a must-pass for tourists reaching Chiang Mai by train. The square in the front of the Thapae Gate raises numerous pigeons which attract tourists’ eyes. The square is also a popular place for walking in the evening.
