Established in 1964, Chiang Mai University is the only national university in Chiang Mai and the supreme institute of high education in North Thailand. Covering 14 square kilometers, Chiang Mai University maintains much of its original forest character, and serves as a good place for wandering and refreshment with verdant grassy areas and tranquil pools. Purple is the color of the university that you can see students wearing purple uniform all over the campus. The best way to enjoy the campus is to ride a bicycle through it.


Among its 17 departments, Art Department of Chiang Mai University is widely reputed. It has an Art Museum for temporary exhibitions of contemporary Thai and international art.
