Cambodia Food

Cambodia has its unique cuisine. Rice is the staple food of the Cambodian. They also eat fish and shrimp, lettuce, cold vegetable dish in sauce and etc., as the subsidiary food. They have various traditional dishes which are perfect for catering guests, for example the cooked shrimp meatballs with vegetables, vegetable plate, smoked fish, cold vegetable dish, among which the most special one is the cold vegetable dish in sauce.

Traditionally Cambodian people sit on the ground when having a hand pilaf. But this only exists in some of their own homes or informal occasions. Some of the families use knives, forks and chopsticks. They would be very happy if the guests praise that the food is rich and delicious.

The food in Cambodia is a little like Thailand food, but without the strong taste of hot and sour. Mostly it is sweet dishes of fresh fishes or seafood. They also eat beef, chicken and pork. In the capital city Phnom Penh, tourists can have delicious food from all over the world and there are many international restaurants in the famous city Siem Reap.

Fish and rice are the two most important ingredients of Cambodia food. There is a famous sauce called Tuktray which is made from spices and peanuts. Cambodia people cook fish with this kind of sauce – make it a very famous dish of Cambodia. Another famous dish named Hao Mo Ke, cooked with coconut juice and other seasonings, warped by banana leaf, is greatly favored by tourists. You can’t miss the popular dish named Samchruk (contains sticky rice, soybeans, and pork) and the delicious fish soup without fishbones (uniquely cooked with coconut and other spices).

Cambodia food may not be as famous as the food of Thailand or Vietnam, but it keeps the features of Indo-China, which balances all the flavors. Cambodia food is healthier and with more specialties.
