Who Need a Vietnam Tourist Visa

Most visitors need visas to enter Vietnam. Citizens of some countries which have signed bilateral or unilateral visa exemption agreements with Vietnam can be exempted from visas; those who under specific circumstances can also enter Vietnam with visas on arrival. If people arrive in Vietnam without an appropriate visa, exemption document, or written approval for a visa on arrival, they will be refused to enter the country and subject to immediate deportation.

 

Vietnam Tourist Visa Exemption

People under the following circumstances can be exempted from Vietnam tourist visas:

1. Vietnamese People:

Who hold foreign passports and foreigners who are their husbands, wives and children, under the conditions that they have foreign-issued permanent residence certificates with the validity of at least six months since the date of their entrances, and get visa exemption papers granted by Vietnamese appropriate authorities, are allowed to stay in Vietnam for not more than 90 days.

2. Citizens of Countries Which Signed Bilateral Visa Exemption Agreements:

1) Citizens of Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand holding valid ordinary passports are allowed to stay for not more than 30 days;

2) Citizens of Philippines holding valid ordinary passports are allowed to stay for not more than 21 days;

3) Citizens of Brunei holding valid ordinary passports are allowed to stay for not more than 14 days.

3. Citizens of Countries Which Signed Unilateral Visa Exemption Agreements:

Citizens of Denmark, Finland, Japan, Norway, Russia, South Korea and Sweden holding different kinds of passports are allowed to stay for not more than 15 days.

4. Those Travel to Phu Quoc Island

Foreigners and Vietnamese nationals holding foreign passports valid for at least 45 days that enter Vietnam through an international border gate and then travel to Phu Quoc Island and stay in the island less than 15 days will be granted Vietnam visa exemption.

Tourist visas are required for others. One can apply visa from Vietnamese diplomatic offices or consulates in foreign countries before entering Vietnam, or get written approval for a visa on arrival.

 

How to Apply a Vietnam Tourist Visa

1. For those who enter Vietnam by land or cruise should prepare required documents and submit them to a local Vietnam’s embassy to get a visa. Required documents are passport with minimum 6 month's validity, at least two 4x6cm photos and application form. It normally needs 2~3 working days to issue the visa, and the visa may be valid for 15 to 30 days. Visitors can consult the local embassy or reliable travel agency for detailed information.

2. Travelers entering Vietnam by air at one of its three international airports (Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City and Danang Airport in Da Nang) can apply visa on arrival. They can apply visa approval letter on line via an authorized Vietnamese international travel company, with valid approval letter and other required documents tourist visa can be issued upon arrival at the international airport.
