Inwa

Inwa is a famous ancient city ruins of Inwa Dynasty, which served as a capital of Myanmar for nearly four centuries. Though most of the architecture of Inwa were destroyed, the scattered ruins peeking out from lush trees and farmlands have witnessed the historical vicissitudes.


At the end of the old city, there is a ancient temple said to be the oldest in Inwa. The temple was built all use teak that make it stand solid. Distinguish from other temples, this temple is special simple in style, with a school built aside, if visit at the right time, you may see the children reading here.


Maha Aungmye Bonzan is a small temple built in bright color, like a miniature of the temples in Angkor Wat. Though have underwent the baptism of the time, the bright yellow color and its grandeur as ever.


Tips:

- The entire ancient city of Inwa is like an isle separated by a river that you need to take ferry to get there first and then it is suggested to charter a horse cart to visit Inwa together with the ancient city of Amarapura. Take a horse cart is a pleased way to enjoy a beautiful picture with pleasant idyllic scenery and peaceful golden stupas elegantly reflected on the paddy fields.
- At the ferry-place, small and simple restaurants can be found, affording satisfactory Chinese dishes and western dishes.
