Buddhist pagodas, gemstones, emeralds are familiar Myanmar marks; however, a real Myanmar is more than that, it has more to offer such as pristine beaches. Myanmar is a country not famous for its beaches, but the beaches in its western region are specially beautiful and peaceful with few tourists. The Ngapali Beach is the best-known in the country but with increasingly travelers as well as the price, while Ngwesaung Beach of Pathein, a newly known beach to people, is relatively serene and conveniently to get to via Yangon.
Ngwesaung is a small town of Pathein City located about 300 kilometers southwest from Yangon. Ngwe Saung, means “silver beach” in Burmese, is worthy of the name offers pure white sand, an unspoiled background of lush greens, groves of coconut palms and a suite of newly established luxury beachside resorts. With 14.5 kilometers long coastline stretches all the way to India, the Ngwesaung Beach is one of the most beautiful and longest pristine beaches in Southeast Asia along the Bengal Bay.
Opened up to tourists since 2002, Ngwesaung Beach is still an undisturbed destination even to this day. It is truly a place of recovery for those pursuing crystal blue sea, clean silver sand beach and serene surroundings. Surround the beach, there are many a hotel and guesthouse decorated in typical Myanmar style and equipped with modern facilities. Built with precious teak, an exclusive timber for royal families in ancient times in Myanmar, and had palm leaf and thatch cover the rooftop, all the hotels are facing the sea. Lie on the bench under the palm tree and listen to the soft sound of the waves and breeze, it just like in a paradise on earth.
What to do in Ngwesaung Beach?
If you want to a deep exploration of Ngwesaung, many activities wait for you. You can go fishing on a boat to prepare your dinner, and if you do not get a good catch, it is not a matter to buy some from local fishermen which are identically fresh with inexpensive price. You can go snorkeling in the water if you want a closer contact with the sea and enjoy the colorful world under the sea. You can also go to the Elephant Camp, which is only 16 kilometers away from the Ngwesaung Beach to see assembly elephants in the forenoon but who will be released to forest after 12 a.m.; you can even ride one of them. Furthermore, you can go diving, sailing or do other water sports, or explore the local life in the islands and villages in the vicinity.
