Also known as Ho Chi Minh City Hall or SaigonTown Hall, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee is situated in the centre of the city. It is one of the oldest, biggest and most beautiful French style buildings inHo Chi Minh City, functioning both as a city institution and the city’s most prominent landmark today.
The building was originally known as Hotel de Ville since it was served as a hotel after its completion in 1908 by the French. Then it was named as theCity HallofSaigon, until the fall ofSaigonin 1975, this impressive building got its present name.
Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee is seen as a simple and beautiful old monument with three main buildings at the first glance. The middle one is the highest among three, creating a balanced structure. There were also vivid statues embossed on the building and delicate bass-relieves on the walls. In front of the building lying a small yard with many trees, flowers and especially the statue of Ho Chi Minh named “Uncle Ho and Children” to show this leader’s love to next generations.
The whole construction is especially striking after dark, when the entire building is floodlit. It is somehow a pity that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee is not open for tourists to visit inside since it is a working government building. However, don't let that stop you from taking many beautiful photos of the photogenic cream and yellow architecture from outside the building.
