Wat Xieng Thong is the grandest temple in Luang Prabang. It was built by the King Setthathirat in 1560 and protected by royal family. Same to the royal palace, Wat Xieng Thong was constructed beside the Mekong River. The main hall shows the classical style of Luang Prabang architecture, on the back of which engraves the very beautiful painting of life tree. Inside the hall the wooden pillars with exquisite carvings support the roof which is covered by dhammacakka. Close to the east gate of the Wat Xieng Thong, there is an auditorium built for royal funerals. It has a very luxury 12-meter-high carriage and the cinder jar of the royal members. The scenes of Ramayana were carved in the walls.
