Phra Phrom, or the Four Faced Buddha is one of the most popular worship places in Thailand, which is located in the cross point between Ratchadamri Road and Phloen Chit Road in the Bangkok downtown. It is quite close to the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel and the SOGO Department Store. The SOGO Department Store has now become the famous Central World which is a must-go place in Bangkok.

The Four Faced Buddha was built in 1956, but it is not really a Buddha, but the Lord Brahma who is one of the Trinity of Hindu Gods. In the eyes of Thailand or Southeast Asia people, Phra Phrom is considered extremely merciful, thus they don’t eat meat before worship the Buddha to show their kindness to animals.

Everyday, visitors or believers from all over the world come here to pray. It is said that the Phra Phrom is quite efficacious, so many people come back here to thank the Buddha. Some people even bring with dance and music. It is like not worship the god in a temple if you do not pray in front of the Four Faced Buddha in Bangkok.

The four faces symbolize the four books of the Vedas, the Hindu scriptures and the origin of   the universe; The eight hands symbolize strength or power of Lord Brahma. The upper right hand carries a rosary which symbolizes a life cycle; The upper left hand carries the Vedas which symbolizes wisdom and intelligence. The lower left hand has a pot of water shows cosmical creation. The lower right hand shows grace and protection.
