In the past, Bangkok was famous as the Venice of the East. Roads are not the tool of transporting goods and passengers, but the rivers. The broad Chao Phraya River is like the highway leading to mainland Thailand - all the livings lead their lives based on the huge canals, and the Thailand people consider themselves as the master of water. Nowadays, things have changed, but once you take a fast boat in any wharf of the Chao Phraya River, you can still see the traces or quality of living with water. It is one of the most comfortable transport ways in Bangkok.
Cross the river and get to the Khlong
Bangkok Noi Train Station, tourists can quickly escape the crazy and busy
modern life of Bangkok. Along the river, the further you go, the more you see.
It offers the most part of Thailand, the teak wood buildings and the endless
greens. It is a great place to relax from the craze and tiredness of high pace
modern life.
During the age of sail, many foreigners
came to this great river. Two Dutch captains built the grand Oriental Hotel,
which is a famous attraction itself. Somerset Maugham, Joseph Conrad and other
famous people had been lived there. You can enjoy great drinks in the Author
Wing Cafe or the bars beside the river, and cheers for the great writers.
