That Dam

Located on the street That Dam, That Dam is a black pagoda built in 14th century. It is the oldest ruin in Vientiane and looks like to be deserted. The periphery of That Dam now is overgrown with weeds, and its surface has begun to weathering. The pagoda enshrines a dragon which has seven heads. The dragon is regarded as the redeemer of the city as it is said to have protect the local people from enemy troops’ attack in the battle with Thailand troops in 1828.
